The chosen type of housing unit is an infill house in an urban environment. There are two different units in which one is for medical interns and one is for a couple. The two-storey unit would be ideal for a couple and the one storey unit is suitable for medical units due to the portability of being on stand-by most of the time. Therefore they won’t be at home most of the time. A suitable location for these dwelling units would be in public parking lots close to hospitals in which its located on Gerrard ST W & Elizabeth ST. Thus, these on-call medical interns will be able to eliminate the travel time of going to work. Both dwelling units will share the same set of stairs leading into a common deck for social interactions. Allowing these units to be up to the sidewalk will result into permanent addresses. The uplifted one-storey unit will give an opportunity of having a car park underneath. Also, the deck can act as a canopy below. Therefore, the parking lot will remain the way it is but the dwelling units will create a unique façade on the street level. Each of these units are approximately 300sqft. each, in which the one storey unit can be replicated. The medical unit will commonly share a bathroom, a bunk bed, a small kitchen and a working space. In these small units, they are prefabricated allowing these units to be moveable when a parking lot gets torn down to make a condominium. The idea of both units is create affordable housing in the downtown core of Toronto.
